PROGRAMMING
Questions about what 'channels' and 'purchase tiers'
are available in COMCAST Branford Franchise.
Who
decides what channels are on Basic Service?
Federal Regulations identify the type of programming
that is offered. What is actually offered depends
on the available Broadcast signals in the area and
market factors. Basic Service "must carry"
local Broadcast stations and Community Access Stations.

Why
did YES Channel get added to channel options?
The YES Channel decision was a difficult one. However,
based on subscriber polling, the interest in the channel
‘being added’ far exceeded opposition to
adding it. This channel acquisition and placement initiated
nearly the same level of correspondence as rate increases.
Subscriber's primary opposition was to requiring the
channel be part of the Extended Basic Tier.
Why
are my channels different than my friends in the Next
Town?
Your friend's Town may be in a different franchise.
During 2003-2005 the Channel line-up COMCAST Cable Towns
was modified often. On Sept. 7th 2005 Channels will
be standardized across CT and Expanded Basic will be
organized by Themes: News, Family,
Sports, Movies, Entertainment, Learning, Music, and
Shopping. This change increases the likelihood
that you and your friend are watching the same programs
on the same Channels regardless of your which town you
live in.
I
am getting cable box advertisements in my e-mail. Can
I use such a box for my TV?
All the equipment needed is available through the company.
Older televisions may not be cable-ready in accordance
with government standards. In this case the law permits
you to purchase a Universal Cable Box. However, if the
advertising suggests that you will get "more than
you paid for" or that the device will "descramble",
it may be legal for the company to sell it but not legal
for you to use it. It is advisable to check with the
Cable Company before installing any cable boxes.
CSPAN2
programs were pre-empted. How does this happen. Is the
company required to carry CSPAN?
Connecticut is a unique market because of its proximity
to two major sports markets. Occasionally teams from
both markets, usually carried on the same network, play
at the same time and COMCAST is contractually obligated
to carry both games. This is referred to as an 'overflow'
situation. When this happens, COMCAST must find an alternate
channel to show one of the games. Certain networks contractually
allow COMCAST to pre-empt their regular programming
for this type of situation. CSPAN2 is one of those networks.
COMCAST cannot guarantee that CSPAN2 will never be pre-empted
in the future, but they are taking steps to minimize
those occurrences. CSPAN
is a service of the cable industry.
